The overall objective of the WaKap project is the development and piloting of a new, more energy-efficient, modular combined process for the production of drinking water from arsenic-laden/brackish groundwater and seawater in Vietnam.
Concerning groundwater containing arsenic an in‑situ treatment will be done upfront with the aim to also remove the problematic compounds prior to CDI treatment.
For desalination of sea water a CDI module will be used as energy-efficient pre-desalination so that the osmotic pressure in the downstream RO can be significantly lowered and thus, the water recovery increased.
